The international growth of COVID-19 has likely flipped your regular schedule upside down.
In uncertain times, you can feel good in knowing your residence is your safe space. You’re possibly spending more time there nowadays. As a result, your indoor air quality is now more crucial than ever.
Were you aware we can install indoor air quality products in your residence that offer hospital-grade filtration? These solutions can eliminate bacteria from your air, as well as allergens, odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Up-to-date houses are tightly sealed, which is fantastic for energy efficiency. But it also means your home’s air could be worse than the air outside. In fact, the EPA says it can be two to five times worse than outdoors. This can be problematic, since we spend about 90% of our lifetime inside.
There are many elements that can cause poor indoor air quality, including cleaning products and air fresheners. These might result in headaches and worsen allergies and asthma.
There’s a combination of actions you can take to improve your air quality. Some include upgraded air filters, an air purification system or an ultraviolet (UV) germicidal light.
Unsure which solution is a good fit for your home? Our knowledgeable technicians can do an indoor air quality audit. Based off of the results, we can then advise you on the best choice for your family’s distinct needs.

Air Filtration
When looking at air filters, you should review the MERV rating, or Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This measures how efficiently it filters contaminants.
One of the most ordinary and most economical filters, flat fiberglass filters, are graded between 1 and 4 on the MERV register. Pleated filters are somewhat better, rated between 8 and 12.
We recommend getting at minimum a MERV 13, such as the HC13 Media Air Cleaner, for optimal outcome. This filter delivers fresher air while limiting energy use*.
High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters are deemed the gold standard in air filtration, because they’re typically installed in hospitals. They’re effective at catching 99.97–99.99% of indoor pollutants, including pollen, pet dander and smoke.

Air Purification
Lennox® has some of the greatest air purification units you can buy. PureAir™ S and Healthy Climate™ PureAir Air Purification Systems provide hospital-grade filtration while handling all categories of indoor air contaminants.
These powerful units can take care of:
- 99.9% of allergens, including pollen, dust and pet dander
- 95% of bacteria-sized particles, such as ones that lead to strep throat
- 50% of VOCs and odors within 24 hours
UV Germicidal Lights
A UV germicidal light is added inside your heating and cooling system. Its powerful rays wipe out bacteria and mold within seconds.
If your family has allergies or asthma, this equipment might give relief. Especially if you reside in a muggy climate where bacteria and mold thrive.
This light also provides an additional bonus for your comfort unit. It could help it work for a longer period of time and heat and cool more efficiently, as it keeps the internal components clean.
Our air quality engineers recommend using one of these lights with an enhanced filter, such as our Carbon Clean 16® Media Air Cleaner, for optimal effect. This filter delivers industry-leading MERV 16 filtration in addition to carbon-coated fibers to catch particles in your home’s air. It fulfills this without limiting your heating and cooling system’s airflow.
Whole-Home Humidifiers
Getting even humidity in your home could help keep your household in good health when it’s chilly. It can help with sore throats, itchy skin and cracked lips, in addition to added cold weather irritations.
If you aren’t sure of what your house’s humidity percentage is, we’ll measure it during your indoor air quality audit. While the range varies based on outdoor temperatures, HVAC experts usually advise keeping it between 40–60 percent.
You can reach this optimal range by installing a whole-home humidifier. This unit typically works with your furnace or air handler to give optimum humidity across your house. Some units, like the Healthy Climate® Whole-Home Power Humidifier, contain a built-in fan to spread humidity when your HVAC equipment isn’t running.
